National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute" is one of the leading Russian Universities - it has been training highly qualified personnel for the most important industries of Vietnam since 1953. MPEI alumni successfully work for the benefit of Vietnam. MPEI is proud of the fact that in 1954 it was honored to entertain the President Ho Chi Minh.

In the intervening years MPEI has prepared over 500 bachelors, masters and experts, 120 candidates of science and 9 doctors of science for Vietnam. More than 150 Vietnamese experts have passed their training at MPEI. Work of our University was highly appreciated by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam: MPEI was awarded the "Order of Friendship" in 1978 and the Order of Labour of the First Degree – the highest SRV award for the foreign organizations in 2015. In 2015 four MPEI employees were awarded SRV Order of Friendship.

Now over 70 students and 15 Ph.D.-students from Vietnam are trained at MPEI.

Under the auspices of Rossotrudnichestvo MPEI has been holding numerous events within the international project "It is time to study in Russia!" in Vietnam since 2013. MPEI actively cooperates with the Ministry of Education and Training of the country, leading universities, scientific organizations and a great number of energy companies of Vietnam. MPEI was one of the originators of foundation of VNU Russian-Vietnamese Institute that was subsequently renamed into IS-VNU. In September, 2017 the start of the joint network educational program of training in English in the area of "Computer science and computer facilities" is planned.

MPEI delegation took part in the international academic colloquium "Global Education: global prospects", devoted to IS-VNU anniversary. During the speech made by representatives of IS-VNU partner Universities of the USA, Great Britain, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand various aspects of cross-border cooperation in educational and scientific spheres and potential use of new educational technologies in this area were considered.

Moreover the meeting with Le Trung Thanh - IS-VNU Rector - and Mai Nguyen Tuyet Hoa - Head of Department of International Relations and Communication was arranged. During the meeting the issues of implementation of the joint network educational program of training in the area of "Computer science and computer facilities" were discussed. The Vietnamese students admitted at IS-VNU according to this program have a possibility of further training at MPEI after the second year. It has been noted that in spite of the fact that there were 40 vacant places, the total number of the submitted applications for this program has exceeded 2000. The management of institute plans to send official letters - invitations for participation of MPEI representatives in the program opening ceremony in September, 2017.

The meeting with the management of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) was arranged. MPEI delegation was entertained by VNU President professor Nguyen Kim Sean. The participants of the meeting were: IS-VNU Rector Le Trung Thanh, Rector of University of Engineering and Technology as VNU part Nguyen Viete Ha, Head of VNU International Administration Le Toin An, Head of IS-VNU Department of International Relations and Communication Mai Nguyen Tuyet Hoa, and others. The exchange of opinions concerning the realization of cooperation between our universities in scientific and educational spheres took place there. VNU president emphasized his interest in further development of joint network educational programs, taking into account the offers made by SRV Minister of Education and Training, MPEI Honorary Doctor Fung Suan Nya during the working meeting with MPEI Rector Nikolay Rogalev on the 30th of June, 2017.

On the basis of these offers NVU President asked Rector of University of Engineering and Technology (UET-VNU) to define the master program, and IS-VNU Rector — to define one more joint bachelor program in English for joint implementation together with MPEI. After coordination of the chosen programs responsible persons who will be engaged in coordination of curricula both from the part of VNU, and from the part of MPEI will be assigned. Training for audience members of these programs is supposed to be on a commercial basis at the expense of personal means of students and at the expense of the means provided by the interested Vietnamese companies. A mechanism allowing the best students to obtain these programs with the state support, both from SRV Ministry of Education and Training, and from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation is planned. After the meeting MPEI delegation visited UET-VNU departments and laboratories. UET-VNU included: Dept. of information and communications technology, Dept. of electronics and telecommunication, Dept. of mechanical engineering and automatics, Dept. of applied physics and nanotechnology. There are trained 2600 future bachelors, 700 masters and 120 Ph.D.-students at UET-VNU. Academic staff makes 240 people. UET-VNU is interested in development of the power engineering areas of training. Following the results of the meeting there was made the decision that UET-VNU delegation would pay a visit to MPEI for coordination of all aspects of the joint network educational program.

During the colloquium

A working meeting with Nguyen Tkhi Han - Head of Department of work with the Vietnamese students abroad at the Management of the international education of SRV Ministry of Education and Training was arranged there. The Vietnamese party expressed its deep satisfaction with level of expert training at MPEI. The issues of prehabilitation for training of the Vietnamese students of other universities of the Russian Federation at MPEI in the corrected areas who now are trained by atomic professions were discussed.

It is important to point out that a meeting with MPEI alumnus, Mr. Tran Chi Thanh - President of Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute also took place there. During the meeting the other employees of Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute including MPEI alumni were presented and the issues of joint training for the nuclear center created in Vietnam, retraining of the students studying in the Russian Federation by atomic professions and closer scientific and educational interaction between Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute and MPEI were discussed. President of Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute got the official invitation to ITAE (Institute of Thermal and Nuclear Power Engineering) anniversary in November, 2017.
