Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar visited MPEI

MPEI International Division informs that Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar His Excellency U Tin Yu visited MPEI on April 11, 2013.

The ambassador was met by acting Rector of MPEI Nicolay D. Rogalev, held a meeting with students from the Union of Myanmar, who are trained now in MPEI, and visited a number of MPEI Departments. On Departments of Metal Technologies, the General Physics and Nuclear Synthesis and High Voltage Engineering and Electrical Physics the Ambassador met Heads of the Departments and got acquainted with modern laboratory base. At the end of the meeting there had been a conversation about activation of Master`s and Ph.D.- students training program in MPEI on different prospective specialties. The delegation of Embassy was glad to visit MPEI.

MPEI accepted first students from the Union of Myanmar in 2001 under the contract with the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Union of Myanmar. The first 17 students arrived to start the Preliminary course, and in a year – Master course. In 2004 the first masters graduated from MPEI. Since then every year MPEI prepares a number of Masters from the Union of Myanmar. Some graduates of a Master course arrive to postgraduate study of MPEI.

Now in MPEI are trained 154 students, 27 Ph.D.-students and 1 candidate working for doctor's degree from Myanmar. In total for more than 10 years MPEI has trained about two hundred experts in the field of engineering sciences, 14 citizens of Myanmar defended Master's thesis. One of them – Hlaing Mines. At since 2010 studies in MPEI Doctoral Course at ECAO Department.
