Congratulations to Pavel Gornyak, MPEI Honorary Professor, on his anniversary

In January 2023 a citizen of the Republic of Slovakia, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Slovak University of Technology, graduate and MPEI Honorary Professor Pavel Gornyak celebrated his 80th birthday.

Pavel Gornyak was studying at MPEI from 1961 to 1965, after that he interned at lighting engineering plants in Riga, Tallinn, Baku and Yerevan, worked at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava and as an advisor to the Slovakian Minister of Energy. In the 70s and 80s he worked as a visiting professor at technical universities in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Bulgaria, and Russia and was involved in the scientific supervision of MPEI students and those ones who were studying at TU Ilmenau.

Pavel Gornyak's professional and scientific activities are focused on light sources and their use mainly in the field of outdoor lighting. In 1972, he defended his PhD thesis at MPEI in Lighting Engineering, and in 1980, his doctoral thesis in Bratislava. In 1977 he became the founder of the Department of Lighting Engineering at the Slovak University of Technology. 

We heartily congratulate distinguished Professor Pavel Gornyak on his anniversary! We wish him good health, prosperity, and the achievement of his goals!
