MPEI held a strategic meeting on educational cooperation with Cuba

MPEI, the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the Russian Federation and Cuba's Electrical Union (UNE) held a strategic meeting on strengthening educational cooperation.

12 April, 2023 a working meeting with the participation of Jose Antonio Telles Medina,Trade and Economic Attache for Energy, a coordinating group of Cuba's Electrical Union employees, as well as representatives of the Technological University of Habana José Antonio Echeverría" (CUJAE, Cuba) was held at MPEI in a video conferencing to discuss several areas of interaction in training national personnel and perspectives in the field of industry oriented education. The participants were welcomed by Alexander Tarasov, Vice-Rector on International Relations. The meeting was organized and moderated by the Directorate for the Development of Integration Policy.

During the meeting, both sides discussed important issues on the increase in the number of Cuban students at MPEI in the academic year 2023-2024, the topics of graduate qualification works as well as the results of the work done on the initiative of the MPEI Targeted Training Center in Cuba to promote energy and education development in Cuba.

"We continue the tradition of active interaction with the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba and the UNE in order to coordinate Russian-Cuban cooperation in the direction of higher industry oriented education" , — Anastasia Mashkova said, Director on Integrational Policy Development.

MPEI leadership is currently continuing to support the campaign launched in 2022 to unite efforts and cooperation between Cuban students and the faculty of the main MPEI departments. The meeting was also attended by MPEI Cuban students who detailed the stages and prospects of the work that has been done. Thus, since 2022 eight Cuban students have been actively working on the development of educational and methodological complexes in Spanish. The complexes on various popular areas of training will be produced for the prospective methodological base of the Center. In 2023 four more Cuban students will engage in this activity.

During the discussion, Marta Delgado, Vice-Chancellor 1st of the Technological University of Habana José Antonio Echeverría" noted the high readiness for the Targeted Training Center opening at the university in Havana.

"Our priority is to coordinate the process of training Cuban energy specialists. We are grateful to the university leadership and the direct supervisors of our cooperation mainly the Directorate for the Development of Integration Policy, for their comprehensive assistance and support in accompanying the scientific and educational initiatives of our company's students" », — Norbelis Infante Pérez, Head of the UNE Corporate Training Department, expressed her gratitude.

The Russia-Cuba strategic meeting at MPEI is an important step towards the strengthening of cooperation between the states. The parties intend to continue working in this direction to achieve joint goals and results in the future.

In the near future, MPEI together with the UNE is planning to hold a series of roundtables on various industry topics in order to integrate and exchange experience. Already on April 14 there will be a roundtable on the topic "Cybersecurity in a corporate environment" which will be moderated by Liosbel Diaz Lorenzo, an assistant of the Department of computing machines, systems and networks and a master student from the Republic of Cuba.​
