Visit of Erdenet Mining Corporation representatives (Mongolia) to MPEI

May 5, 2023, the Erdenet Mining Corporation representatives (Mongolia) visited MPEI.

The delegation consisted of the Erdenet Mining Corporation staff: Head Shuuraa Tumenbayara and Assistant Professor Lhagvasuren Altangerel.

The delegation was given an introductory tour to the MPEI main education building, where the guests were able to see the state-of-the-art-type laboratories and classrooms of the Institute of Hydropower and Renewable Energy (IHRE) and the Department of Relay Protection and Automation of Energy Systems of the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering (IEPE).

Yevgeny Leiman, Vice-Rector on modernization of property complex and legal work, gave a demonstration of the MPEI Training-Experimental Heat and Power Plant, that is currently undergoing reconstruction but it will represent a production-and-training center for highly qualified experts to be trained for the electric and thermal power industry in the future: classrooms and laboratories complete with digital distance learning technologies based on operating power engineering equipment, providing safe and comfortable conditions for learning, testing and research.

As part of the visit, there was held a meeting with Alexander Tarasov, Vice Rector on International Relations. The Vice-Rector noted that MPEI and Mongolian educational organizations have had years of successful cooperation. Every year students and Ph.D.-students from Mongolia study at MPEI. The two parties discussed the potential creating and conducting professional training, retraining and advanced training programmes for Erdenet employees to improve the competence of personnel at MPEI.

As a result of the meeting, representatives of Erdenet and MPEI agreed on the cooperation furtherance in the human resource development in the energy industry in Mongolia.
