MPEI completed professional language training program for Cuban students

At MPEI, the immersion program “Russian Language in a Professional Environment” for Cuban students has concluded. Directorate for Integration Policy Development designed and delivered the program as part of the university’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation with the Republic of Cuba.

Over the course of one week, seven Cuban students improved their Russian language skills.  They focused on using the language in academic, research and future professional settings.

The program featured five thematic modules in engineering, economics, and natural sciences. Participants studied specialized vocabulary and grammatical structures needed for professional communication, working with educational materials, and interacting in an academic environment. Special emphasis went to building skills in public speaking and clearly presenting their work results.

The final stage of the program was the defense of individual projects. Each student delivered a presentation in Russian on their professional field, demonstrating the terminology they had mastered and their ability to apply what they had learned in practice. Upon completion, the students received certificates.

This intensive course marks another step in MPEI’s systematic work to train highly qualified specialists for the Republic of Cuba. Currently, Cuban citizens are studying at the university in master’s and Ph.D. programs in electrical and thermal power engineering, power machinery, informatics, management, as well as renewable energy.

A key part of this effort is the MPEI Targeted Training Center in Havana, which opened in November 2024 with support from the Ministry of Energy and Mining of the Republic of Cuba and the Ministry of Higher Education of the Republic of Cuba. The center provides language, academic and professional training for Cuban specialists planning to continue their studies in Russia.

Delivering such programs helps steadily expand the tools available for training Cuban professionals, creates additional opportunities for their successful integration into the Russian educational environment and strengthens the long‑term scientific and educational partnership between MPEI and the Republic of Cuba.
