Representatives of Federal University of Vicosa - UFV (Brazil) visited MPEI in frames of partnership of NU BRICS

In the period from the 22nd of May to the 28th of May, 2017 representatives of Federal University of Vicosa (Brazil) visited National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute". Among the representatives of UVF were prof. Delhi Oliveira Filo of Dept. of Agrotechnology and Louise Alexandra Peternelli - deputy dean on further education and research work.

Cooperation between MPEI and Federal University of Vicosa started at the beginning of the educational project "BRICS Network University" where both universities were coordinators in Power Engineering area.

On day one Brazilian colleagues met the representatives of the International Department: Vladimir Zamolodchikov - Vice Rector on international relations; Sergey Shirinsky - Head of International Administration; Igor Zhelbakov - Director of international program Center; Irina Kulik - coordinator of the international programs and projects.

Cooperation between universities was continued as the result of the initiative of MPEI Management of innovative activity and efforts of International Administration and Dept. of Hydro Power Engineering and Renewable Energy Sources. In July, 2016 MPEI made the proposal on participation in the pilot multilateral coordinated competition within BRICS Framework programme in scientific, technological and innovative cooperation organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, "Performing of the research in the coordinated priority areas with participation of research organizations and universities of BRICS countries within a multilateral research initiative of BRICS".

Federal University of Vicosa actively supported the proposal therefore there was created the consortium headed by MPEI. It included the representatives of five universities from each BRICS country. There was issued the proposal, and the submitted application was taken cognizance. Selection recruiting is expected.

Thus, the visit to Dept. of Hydro Power Engineering and Renewable Energy Sources, getting acquainted with the department and discussion of cooperation prospects within the possible joint project became the second important purpose of the visit of the Brazilian colleagues. From Dept. of Hydro Power Engineering and Renewable Energy Sources there were presented a deputy department chair T. Shestopalova and prof. Tyagunov as Head of the proposed project. Besides, the Brazilian colleagues visited Dept. of High Voltage Engineering and Electrical Physics, Dept. of Relay Protection and Automation of Energy Systems, and Management of innovative activity where Head of Department of Technology transfer Ivan Komarov held the presentation about innovative activity and the possible areas of collaborations.

Acquiesce with MPEI and many fruitful meetings during the business visit have created new prerequisites for strengthening and deepening of cooperation between our universities.​​
