MPEI at international parliamentary conference "Russia - Africa"21.03.2023

the State Duma hosted the Second International Parliamentary Conference
“Russia-Africa”.
The event was attended by more than 40 official
parliamentary delegations from most African countries, as well as
representatives of scientific and educational and expert communities from
Russia and African countries, the State Duma members, the heads of federal
executive bodies, senators of the Federation Council, the heads of legislative
bodies of the Russian Federation, business community representatives.
On MPEI side, the event was attended by Alexander
Tarasov Vice-Rector on International Relations.
Within the framework of the Second International
Parliamentary Conference "Russia - Africa" there was a round table
discussion on "Parliamentary support for cooperation in science and
education". Participants discussed the popularization of Russian education
in Africa
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, Ivan
Melnikov, reminded all participants that hundreds of thousands of specialists
and skilled workers for African countries were trained with the support of the
USSR, and he added: "Over the past 13 years, the number of African
students studying in Russia has tripled. At the same time, all these figures
should be perceived only as a starting point".
2023 is a jubilee year for MPEI. This year marks 60
years of training African students at MPEI. Over these years, MPEI has trained
about 700 specialists for African countries.
In the academic year 2022/23, students from 17 African
countries will study at MPEI. In 2021, MPEI joined the Russian-African Network
University (RAFU).
