MPEI intensifies the work of the BRICS Network University International Thematic Group on Energy

On January 21, 2026, MPEI held an online meeting of the BRICS Network University (BRICS NU) International Thematic Group (ITG) on Energy. The online platform for the meeting was provided by the BRICS NU Rectorate, operating on the basis of São Paulo State University, Brazil. Representatives from 11 universities in Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa took part in the meeting.

During the meeting, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) informed colleagues about the 2026 action plan they had developed for the BRICS NU, coinciding with India's chairmanship of BRICS. In addition to a major conference and other in-person events, the plan also includes webinars to be conducted online by the BRICS NU International Thematic Groups. This aligns well with the tradition of scientific webinars for Ph.D-students and young researchers organized by the ITG on Energy. MPEI plans to hold such a seminar in February jointly with IIT Bombay.

The representative of the Russian National Coordination Committee of the BRICS NU, Anastasia Mashkova, Director on Integration Policy Development at MPEI, proposed to engage industrial partners more directly in the webinars.

MPEI suggested updating the research directions in the field of energy across the universities that are members of the ITG on Energy. This initiative aims to make it easier for universities to find partners for specific projects. Participants will receive a preliminary table for review. The feedback and an updated membership list will then be forwarded to the BRICS NU Rectorate.
