Professor of Technical University of Berlin Gerhard Bartsch passed away

On the 3rd of March, 2016 the initiator of the students' exchange between Moscow Power Engineering Institute and Technical University of Berlin (TUB), MPEI Honorary Doctor, Professor of TUB Gerhard Bartsch has suddenly died.

 

Professor Gerhard Bartsch was an excellent teacher and a famous scientist. The regular exchange of students and Ph.D.-students for scientific works for many years is the important result of cooperation between TUB and MPEI. Professor Komendantov A. and professor Kuzma-Kichta, Ph.D.-students and students of Institute of Thermal Physics and other Institutes for many years visited TUB and hosted professors and students of TUB at MPEI, participating in joint researches. The examinations concerning the heat transfer augmentation in steam-generation pipes by means of microcellular coating became especially successful. Students from TUB have performed in MPEI their scientific works under the auspices of Professor Kazandzhan B., Professor Kozhevnikov N., etc.

In the following years of professor Bartsch there were performed the joint interinstitute scientific workshops by results of the researches, there have been prepared the publications and reports at the conferences, students of MPEI ITF Department Pavel Serbin, Sergey Borisov, Vsevolod Bakunin (head was prof. Bartsch) have performed theses in Technical University of Berlin. And it is only a part of a huge work of Professor Gerhard Bartsch for the good of science and cooperation between MPEI and TUB.

Everyone who knew professor Gerhard Bartsch, remembers his philanthropy and mentality. Gerhard Bartsch has grown up the daughter, brought up his granddaughter. He loved poetry and music; was a delicate and warm-hearted person, the expert of wide erudition. Light memory of the bright, talented, all-round scientist reading the Russian literature in the original language will remain within our hearts.
