MPEI and China: prospects of joint projects

On September 28, 2023 during the visit of MPEI delegation to Hainan (China) the meeting with Liu Xiaoming, the Chairman of the People’s Government of Hainan Province, took place.

Liu Chong, mayor of Wenchang city, Xie Jing, Vice Governor of Hainan Province, Fu Xuanchao, Secretary-general of Hainan Provincial People's Government, Cao Xiankun, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Education Department of Hainan Province, Dai Zhen, Director of the Hainan Foreign Affairs Office in Hainan were also invited to the meeting.

At the meeting, both sides discussed the development of the MPEI-Hainan University project. This year the program began to be realized in the form of a joint educational program with the North China Electric Power University. Students from 7 countries have already enrolled in this program. In addition, it is planned to hold a summer school in Hainan with students enrolled in a joint program at the North China Electric Power University and students studying under the ETALON program at the Institute of Electric Power Engineering at MPEI. The summer school is planned to be held in October this year.

There was also a meeting with Feng Fei, Secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee.

MPEI Rector emphasized that the MPEI-Hainan University project will be implemented not only as an educational one, but also as a project uniting three directions: education, science and innovation. The secretary of the party committee said that the provincial leadership will provide the necessary support for the creation of this large-scale international project.

A day earlier, the delegation of the MPEI met with representatives of the Municipal People’s Government of Sanya. Zhang Lei, Deputy Secretary General of the Municipal People's Government of Sanya, Yazhou Bei, Deputy Director of the Department of the Scientific and Technical City, Huang Miao, Director of the Service Center for Foreign Affairs of Sanya were at the meeting.

Following the meeting, a preliminary agreement was reached on close cooperation within the framework of the MPEI-Hainan Joint University project, including the realization of joint scientific research.
