MPEI in China: expanding the horizons of cooperation

On September 25, 2023 MPEI delegation to China, a visit to the North China Electric Power University (NCEPU) took place. The Russian side was received by the NCEPU representatives: Prof. Yang Yongping, Rector, Prof. Bi Tianshu Vice-Rector, Prof. Fang Fang Vice-Rector, Prof. Liu Fancheng, former Vice-Rector, Director of Hainan Research Institute, Mr. Qi Zheng, Director of the International Education Institute, Mrs. Li Bo, Deputy Head of the International Relations Department, Mr. Zhao Zijian, Deputy Director of the International Education Department.

During the visit, MPEI delegation met with Mr. Zhang Yanzhong, Chairman of the Academic Council of MPEI-Hainan University, Academician.

The meeting was also attended by Feng Yaou, MPEI Plenipotentiary Representative in China, President of the international corporation "Eurasia" and Hou Na, Du Yuzhu, Elena Borunova, the delegation of MPEI Project Representative Office in China.

During the meeting participants discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation development, successful implementation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization University project, new students’ enrollment in the Joint NIU MPEI-Hainan University, in which MPEI and NCEPU take part, academic mobility programs for MPEI students in China.

In his speech, Nikolay Rogalev, MPEI Rector, emphasized that the modern world requires closer coordination of activities and mutual language learning comes therefore to the forefront. Thus, MPEI started the Chinese language program for MPEI students in the ETALON group of the Electrical Power Engineering and the Humanities and Applied Sciences Institutes. Now it is planned to make a similar program for employees. Also in the new academic year it is planned to organize a summer school "MPEI-Hainan". In addition, a number of students of the ETALON group of the Electrical Power Engineering Institute were sent to China for 1 semester training.

As a result of the meeting, the Chinese side emphasized the importance of scientific and educational cooperation between MPEI and NCEPU and proposed the establishment of joint laboratories. Both parties agreed to make all joint efforts for development in this direction.
