MPEI has been preparing the bachelor-students and Ph.D.-students for Myanmar since 1965. By the present, the University has trained 1 Doctor of Sciences, 70 Ph.D.-students and almost 500 master-students. Today, 1 Dr.Sci.-candidate, 26 Ph.D.-students and 39 master-students from the Republic of the Union of the Myanmar are studying at MPEI. In total, more than 230 Myanmar citizens are currently studying at Russian universities.

In 2001 MPEI signed the first agreement for the targeted training of Myanmar specialists with the Ministry of Sciences and Technology of the Union of Myanmar. Since then, MPEI annually accepts a group of specialists to study in the MPEI master degree for the most in-demand fields. Before the admission to the master degree, applicants study the Russian language for 1 year at the Preparatory Department of MPEI. Upon completion of the master degree, some graduates get recommendations from departments for admission to postgraduate studies. Since 2005, Ph.D.-students from the Union of Myanmar have been studying at MPEI.

In September 2022, at the Eastern Economic Forum, Rosatom State Corporation, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Energy of Myanmar signed a roadmap for cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy for 2022-2023. The document's provisions provide for the possible implementation of a nuclear power plant project with low-power reactors in Myanmar, the formation of a positive public opinion on nuclear energy, as well as preparing for the Myanmar nuclear industry.

Hlaing Min Oo, Head of the Energy Department of the scientific and technical research center DSSTRC, Dr.Sci. (Techn), a graduate of the MPEI from Myanmar, was awarded the title of “MPEI Honorary Professor​” in 2022 on the presentation of the Department of Electrotechnical Complexes of Autonomous Objects and Electrical Transport for his contribution to the development of cooperation between our University and organizations of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

In 2023, MPEI participated in the solemn events on the occasion of the 75th  anniversary of Myanmar’s Independence Day.​
