IHRE was created in 2017 with the support of PJSC RusHydro and Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation. It unites in a single center education and training of engineering personnel for hydropower and renewable energy. IHRE joins such departments as "Hydropower and RES", "Hydromechanics and Hydraulic Machines", "Power and Hydro-Technical Utilities". These departments provide training for bachelors, masters and Ph.D.-students with a specialized degree of RusHydro. With the support of PJSC RusHydro, at IHRE there have been created innovative laboratory facilities, that include modern stands and training simulators used in energy companies. In the pipeline - to complete the equipping of the laboratories at "Hydromechanics and Hydraulic Machines" department with facilities and to create university laboratories for hydro-technical utilities of "Power and Hydro-Technical Utilities" department. At IHRE there are the CIS International Research and Educational Center for the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency and the interdepartmental laboratory "IHRE Joint Research University Laboratory", that includes operating renewable energy-based electric power plants.
