TRAN HONG THAI

Positions: Since September 2025, First Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. Member of the Sectoral and Interdisciplinary Professorial Councils in Earth Sciences and Mining Engineering. Previously he held positions at the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment (1998-2010). From 2010 to 2023, he served on the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. In 2023-2024, he served as Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Vietnam. In 2024-2025, he held the positions of Deputy Secretary of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Group of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee and Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee.

Scientific and academic achievements: Graduated in 1998 from MPEI (Thermal Engineering Faculty). In 2019, he was awarded the title of Professor at the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change. Author and co-author of 10 monographs and textbooks and more than 100 scientific publications, including 13 papers in leading international journals indexed in SCI, ISI and Scopus. He supervised 12 Ph.D. theses to successful completion. His research focuses on flood modeling, climate change impact assessment and water resources management in Southeast Asia. Tran Hong Thai has been honored with the state award “Emulation Fighter” (2022) and the Second-Class Order of Labor (2024).

Otto Benedikt worked at the Vienna University of Technology and received his PhD in electrical engineering in 1930. From 1939 to 1955 he worked at MPEI as a professor. In 1956 he was elected a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 1958 he became a full member of the Academy.
Оtto Benedikt organized and headed the Research Laboratory for Automation of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1960. From 1964 to 1970 he was a director of the Institute for Automation Research in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. After 1971 he became a scientific adviser of the Institute. He died in 1975.
