Master course IEPE student Dmitry Chesnokov and Master course IHAS student Irina Sazonova

From 5 to 14 July, 2021, we were studying at the Summer business school on the base of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, School of Business.

Summer school was supposed to be carried out in Switzerland in ordinary format, but due to the pandemic it was given only remotely.

The work language was English, but teachers often spoke German. In other words, it was a short intensive course to get acquainted with the topic of tourism organization applying the European methodics developed by the Swiss scientists.

The decision for our participation was taken because it was interesting to get some knowledge that was not joint with the major and even far from it. The lectures format of 8 hours per day, 3 days a week was a little uneasy. It seems that many students had issues with this, because 50 persons from 16 different countries obviously were in different time zones and conditions. However, small videos about life and tourism in Switzerland didn’t allow you to lose your vigilance and get away from the monitor by turning off the microphone and camera.

But, however, every hour the small pauses were made, there was a lunch break and short thematic conversations for the students several times a day. According to one of the supervisors, professor Ours, a good tourism manager must have personal ties in the countries where he works, so the groups we studied in were reshuffled for cooperative solving of the tasks that were given.

“I was very pleased to meet many students from different countries, and also to listen to very interesting lecture material, to go through a virtual simulation of tourism management in TOPSIM and to improve my English level. And as well, I would like to thank the Department of International cooperation for organizing and paperwork, especially my coordinator, Irina Sazonova”, - Dmitry Chesnokov shared his impressions.

“Participation in a summer school is not only about getting interesting knowledge, but also a great opportunity to make new friends. Most of the activities implied teamwork, and in the classroom, all students were being involved in the process of solving problems. All this gives an excellent opportunity to express yourself, meet other people and improve your communication skills, even remotely” - Irina Sazonova said.

We express our gratitude to the teaching staff of the University for the occasion to participate in the Summer school, and the Department of International cooperation for the help in the admission organization.
