Training of specialists in the field of energy at MPEI for the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria began in the 60s of the last century. About 100 people from Algeria have undergone training at MPEI throughout its history.

In 1980s MPEI professors and staff were sent to universities of Andorra for teaching and organizing educational laboratories. Educational literature was sent to the subordinated universities of Algeria to train students.

Every year Algerian students take part in MPEI Interfestival. Presently there are two universities in the list of MPEI partner universities:

Annaba University (cooperation agreement was signed in 1992);

Boumerdes University (cooperation agreement was signed in 2001).

Every year since 2020 RUDN University hosts the International Youth Forum "Russia-Africa: Nuclear Education for Sustainable Development" via videoconference. MPEI students from African countries take an active part in the event.
