Cooperation between MPEI and universities and organizations of Egypt began in 1958, when the first students were admitted to study at MPEI.

MPEI alumni were directly involved in the design and project implementation of the Aswan Dam on the Nile River in Egypt. In the late 1950s, the Aswan High Dam design was entrusted to the Gidroproekt Institute. One of the project managers was Kirill Kuzmin, a Soviet and Russian mountaineer and hydropower engineer, MPEI alumnus and lecturer.

MPEI alumni continue their research and teaching activities at the university. One associate professor from Egypt is working at MPEI. Ph.D.-students from Egypt study at MPEI annually.

Egyptian students at MPEI are involved in student life, including active participation in the annual Interfestival (international students’ festival).

Every year MPEI hosts an international scientific and technical conference for students and Ph.D.-students entitled "Radioelectronics, Electrical and Power Engineering", that is traditionally attended by scientists and employees from Egyptian organizations.

20 August, 2021, MPEI joined the Russian-African Network University (RAFU)). The RAFU Summer University was launched in 2022. Specifically for this University, 10 Russian universities developed two-week courses for African alumni studying in Russia. At MPEI 15 students from the Engineering and Technology College of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Egypt studied the features of heat, hydro and electricity, they attended master classes and interactive practicums, as well as the Russian language courses and they learned about Russian history and culture.

MPEI participates in educational forums and exhibitions in cooperation with Egyptian universities, as well as business meetings and events with representatives of the Egyptian Bureau for Cultural and Educational Affairs in Moscow on the potential cooperation in educational and scientific areas of activity.
