MPEI maintains active partnerships with three leading educational institutions in Malaysia:

  • Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia;

  • Universiti Tenaga Nasional;

  • Universiti Sains Malaysia.

As a result of long-standing cooperation between the two nations, MPEI has successfully trained and graduated two Malaysian students.

On May 28, 2024, MPEI hosted the first meeting of the Russia-Malaysia Joint Working Group on Education, Science and Technology. The participants discussed potential avenues for collaboration in higher education, scientific research, and technology, as well as the mutual promotion of Russian and Malay language studies in both countries.

On February 17, 2025, MPEI welcomed a delegation from Malaysia led by Datuk Dr. Mohd Nor Azman Hassan, Deputy Secretary General (Technology Development) of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. Both sides discussed the prospects of international cooperation in the science and education fields.

In accordance with a cooperation agreement signed in 2023 and a strategic Roadmap extending to 2027, MPEI and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) are implementing the MYFKMP International Mobility Program at MPEI. This initiative is designed to foster student academic mobility and broaden international engagement in engineering education. Concurrently, UTHM hosts academic mobility programs for MPEI students. Since 2025, MPEI has also been conducting research on new materials developed at UTHM.

The second meeting of the Working Group on Education, Science and Technology under the Joint Russian-Malaysian Commission for Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation was held in Malacca on April 28-29. During this session, MPEI and UTHM delivered a joint presentation on their collaborative activities.

MPEI participates annually in the Russian University Exhibition held at the Russian House in Kuala Lumpur.

Both Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and MPEI are members of the International Association of Universities for the Development of Electric Power Technologies (ADEPT). The ADEPT forum is dedicated to advancing energy technologies and fostering bilateral cooperation between partner universities.

Furthermore, MPEI regularly hosts the seminar "Efficient Production, Transportation and Consumption of Electrical Energy" which brings together scientists and experts from Russia and ASEAN countries. The seminar includes representatives from the Malaysian Energy Commission and Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the national utility company.
