The center started its work at MPEI in 1996. Since 2012 the Center
of additional linguistic education has been a structural department of the Institute
of the Humanities and Applied Sciences.
For 24
years, about 9,000 students have been trained at the Linguistic Center.
Center of training and retraining "Center
of additional linguistic education" provides training programs for
professional retraining of senior students, undergraduates, postgraduates and
certified specialists.
Since 1999 the center has been providing training of specialists for the
Program "Translator in the field of professional communication"
(English, German, languages) - 1520 training hours. The purpose of the program
“Translator in the field of professional communication” is formation of
professional competencies which are necessary for intercultural communication
in the field of professional activity: the ability to carry out translation
activities professionally, which implies a high level of proficiency both in
Russian and English which is based on professional knowledge of the specialty
in the field of their activity.
The staff: professors from the full-time
scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Foreign Languages and
the Department of Advertising, Public Relations and Linguistics of Institute of the Humanities and
Applied Sciences of MPEI and teaching staff of other universities
working under a civil law contract (GPC).
The
program includes the following disciplines: Introduction to linguistics,
Fundamentals (basis) of theory of the English language, Practical course of the
English language, Practice of
oral and written speech, Practical
Phonetics, Practical Grammar, Analysis of artistic text, Stylistic analysis of scientific and technical text, Stylistics of the Russian language and the culture
of speech, Translation theory, Practical course of professionally-oriented translation which includes Practical course of technical translation, Abstracting and annotating
scientific and technical literature, Practical
course of two-way (bilateral) written translation, Practical
course of two-way (bilateral) interpreting, Practical course of socio-political translation. History, culture and geography of
English-speaking countries. Business English and Translation practice
In the process of teaching the students
different modern techniques are used. The textbooks and manuals are being
constantly renewed.
After
completing the training and passing the Certification exam, the student
receives a diploma of professional retraining of the established form.
