The Department was founded in 1966​​​

Summary 

 

Historically and to the present day, at the Department there have been trained more than 1800 electrotechnical engineers working in almost all regions of Russia and other countries. Graduates of the department become prominent directors of production facilities, research and design establishments and representatives of foreign companies.

11 D.Sc. in engineering and more than 220 PhD in Technical Sciences with a degree 05.09.03 in "Electrical engineering complexes and systems" have been trained at the Department from the year of its foundation. More than 30 of them are from far-abroad countries.​​

  • Modeling the non-sinusoidal effect of solar panels and charges of electric vehicles on the quality of electric energy in household electrical networks
  • Development of methods for the analysis of non-stationary levels of non-sinusoidal supply voltage in networks with non-linear loads
  • Research and development of power-efficient inductive electrical technological complexes and induction crucible furnaces by improving the power supply and control systems
  • Experimental developments and guidance papers on ensuring electric safety of electric facilities of innovative technologies aimed at energy saving
  • Development of a comprehensive methodology for constructing an electric power supply system for critical loads, aimed at addressing the issues of energy efficiency, reliability and electric safety of electrical installations of industrial and infrastructure facilities
  • Development of intelligent control systems aimed at improving energy efficiency, and energy monitoring systems for electrical complexes based on alternatives and renewables
  • Development of a combined system for designing cathode-ray technological processing installations
  • Development of energy saving technology and an innovative approach to the algorithm elaboration to control lighting of utilities and industry without deterioration of power quality
  • Development of techniques to reduce noise emission in updated distribution networks
  • Development of a design technique for high-voltage switching power supplies with a min operate time of current protection for powering e-beam projectors

                    Features

                    Quality of education

                    The Department pays careful attention to ensuring the quality of training highly- qualified personnel for the purposes of electrical power engineering, electrical engineering and industry at all levels of higher education (Bachelor's programmes, Master's programmes, postgraduate training programs, extended education).​ 

                    Teaching and guiding

                    Within teaching and guiding, the Department actively participates in the events of the Federal Academic Methodological Association in the higher education system concerning the enlarged group of specialties and areas of training 13.00.00 "Electrotechnics and Heat Engineering". In particular, the head of the Department, Sergey А. Tsyruk, is the chairman of the academic and methodological commission in the field of “Electrical Equipment and Electrical Facilities of Enterprises, Organizations and Institutions” (the area of training is “Electrical Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering”). Тhe Department’s professors are actively involved in development of principal educational programs based on Federal state educational standards of higher education in the area of training "Electrical Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering".​

                    Unique equipment

                    As for material support the Department is regularly updated and modernized. To carry out research work and to implement educational programs, there are used advanced material and technical resources to ensure the high quality of scientific studies and all types of disciplinary and interdisciplinary training provided for in the curriculum, laboratory, practical, research and independent work of students.

                    The list of material support of the Department includes:

                    • Academic and laboratory facilities in the areas of training "Management of maintenance and operational activities in the electrical facilities", "Automation of control of electric power supply systems", "Organization of electrical measurements in the electrical facilities", "Integration of renewables in electric power supply systems", "Study of noise emission properties of nonlinear loads";
                    • Laboratory of microprocessor relay protection and automatic equipment based on Sepam digital terminals within MPEI - Schneider Electric Training Center;
                    • Laboratories of electric resistance furnaces, induction heating, electron-beam heating, electron-beam welding, arc heating, high-frequency and low-temperature induction heating, automated airvoid electroheat equipment, arc welding and heat treatment of materials, automation and electric power supply of electroheat installations, automated research systems and computer-assisted command systems fitted with updated equipment (including sophisticated equipment) and expendable materials;
                    • EKF Research and Educational Center with low-voltage equipment;
                    • Updated computer (display) classrooms;
                    • Lecture halls equipped with multimedia and presentation equipment;
                    • A package of licensed software.
