Summary

Graduates of the Department solve problems in the field of development, exploitation and adjustment of heat, cold, water, air, gas and fuel supply systems of industrial enterprises and public utilities on the base of the advanced methods and computer technologies.

Our graduates are involved in the decision making or policy planning that will deliver sustainable, energy efficient systems to the global market. They will have the basic training necessary to lead efforts within companies to plan and implement new energy generation investments, realize energy effectiveness improvements specifically at the system level, and participate in energy and environmental markets such as, heat and power purchase agreements, energy management monitoring and cap-and-trade systems.

Research areas

Main directions of the department research areas are:

  • Design and optimization of the modern energy effective heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, water and fuel supply of industrial enterprises and public utilities.
  • Work optimization and improving effectiveness of heat power engineering systems and heat equipment, development and implementation of energy – saving measures in industry and public utilities.
  • Enviromental safety assessment of heat power engineering systems of industrial enterprises and public utilities.
  • Mathematical modeling and optimizing the heat power engineering systems of industrial enterprises and public utilities.
  • Development and research of the heat power engineering systems functioning on the base of renewable energy sourses (solar, wind, petrotermal energy, etc.)
  • Development and implementation of nanotechnology in the heating and heating and building maintenance systems.
  • Energy audit (complex energy examinations) of industrial enterprises and public utilities.
  • Own MPEI power plant operation.

Recent research projects

  • Starting in 2019
Theme: Researching of new type centralized heat supply system which has decreased temperature of the returned water circuit on the base of absorbtion technologies.

Theme: Development of methods for creating ambitious new generation heat supply systems with the elements and concepts of intellectual operation.

Theme: Development of the methodology and computer program for evaluating the technical and economic effectiveness under using hydraulic couplings and VFD.

  • Starting in 2018
Theme: Complex Air Refinery Block (CARB); researching of the influence of CARB construction on energy effectiveness of the gas – tubine installation.

  • Starting in 2017
