Summary

logo-itf.jpgThe Thermophysics Department was founded in 1954 to train specialists in new areas of power engineering. The key feature of the Thermophysics Department is the emphasis on the fundamental training in physics, mathematics and computer science. Our lecturers are world-famous scientists; scientific work is the most important part of the department functioning.

Research areas

  • Heat transfer research
  • Numerical modeling of physical processes
  • Magnetohydrodynamics
  • Plasma physics
  • Nanostructures and its applications
  • Thunderclouds and tornado formation
  • Disposal of space debris
  • Sonoluminescence
  • Fractional calculus

Recent projects

  • Study of magnetohydrodynamics and heat transfer in a combined cooling system with liquid metal coolants
  • Comprehensive study of heat transfer during cooling of high-temperature bodies in a liquid

  • Development of physical models of steam explosion dynamics, as applied to severe accidents at nuclear power plants, and numerical calculations

  • Modeling by the VOF method of the processes at film condensation of moving vapor on surfaces of horizontal tube bundles of different layouts

  • Transport mechanisms and flow structure in thin shear layers and jets of various types under the influence of magnetic fields

Features

Our students are our colleagues. They take part in our scientific and applied researches, starting their activity from the very beginning of training. Due to versatile training, our graduates work in different fields of industry: power engineering, aviation, missilery, space technologies, and many others.
