Record number of MPEI students are taking part in summer schools in China

July 1, 2024 was a significant day for MPEI students. The opening ceremony of summer schools was held in four leading Chinese universities. The Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), North China Electric Power University (NCEPU), Harbin Institute of Technology, Hefei University of Science and Technology opened their doors to MPEI bachelor, master and Ph.D.-students, offering training on the most relevant topics in power engineering sector, Chinese language learning and immersion in the country's culture.

According to the results of internal competitive selection, 5 MPEI students from IHRE, EEI, IITCS, IPMM and 1 PhD student of EEEA department were selected to the BIT. The competition amounted to 6 people for 1 budget place. This year's summer school in the BIT gathered over 400 participants from 20 countries, who came to study in 4 directions from Chinese language learning to electronics. The school will last 4 weeks, during which MPEI bachelor, master and Ph.D.-students will get acquainted with Chinese culture, master basic characters and learn their first phrases in Chinese. The school also includes excursions to Beijing's sights.

The Beijing Institute of Technology was founded in 1960 and consisted of 5 engineering faculties. The BIT is ranked among the top 20 universities in China and top 300 universities in the world. According to recent national ranking evaluations, BIT was among the first 15 universities included in the "211 Project". It is also the tenth university included in the prestigious "Project 985". Along with Tsinghua University, Peking University, Beihang University and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, it is considered one of the leading engineering universities in Beijing.

North China Electric Power University, MPEI partner in China in a number of projects, welcomed the first session of the summer school in Beijing. The summer school in North China Electric Power University will be held this year in two shifts. Within the first shift 7 participants from IITCS, ITNPE, IEPE, IHRE, IREE, including the MPEI branch in Volzhsky, have already started their studies. The second shift, consisting of 3 participants from IHRE, IEPE and ITNPE will start its program on July 7. As part of the summer school, the students will visit power companies in Beijing, study a number of disciplines, and visit the main sights.

North China Electric Power University was founded in 1958 and is among China's leading technical universities, ranking highly in national and international rankings. The university is known for its strong programs in power engineering and electrical engineering, playing a key role in research and development related to energy supply, renewable energy and energy efficiency, making it an important training center for the energy industry.

Harbin Polytechnic University traditionally joined the summer educational initiatives by hosting 13 MPEI students from IHAS, IEEE, IEPE, IITCS, ITNPE, and IEEHT. Most of the participants of the summer school at KPU are students from MPEI's Center for International Educational Programs (CIP). The Chinese language summer school in Harbin will last 4 weeks.

Harbin Polytechnic University was founded in 1920 as the Russian-Chinese School for training specialists in railway transport, organized on the basis of Russian educational standards. In China's ranking, the university occupies the very first lines in mechanical engineering, engineering, construction, aviation, architecture and process automation, and is also included in the C9 league (China's "Ivy League"). During the month-long program, students will study Chinese language and culture, calligraphy, and tour the Space Museum and the KPU Museum.

Finally, a specialized program for ITNPE students was organized at the Hefei Summer School, where 7 students from the GPNF Department went.

In two weeks, students will have already left for two more summer schools. Dalian

University of Technology will host 2 students from IEPE, IPMM, and an MPEI personnel member, while Xi'an Jiao Tong University (XJTU) will host 16 MPEI participants from 10 institutes, including MPEI Volzhsky Branch, and two MPEI employees.

Founded in 1949, Dalian University of Technology plays a key role in power engineering sector through its advanced research and development in power engineering and engineering. The university is actively involved in projects related to renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable technologies. Its research centers and laboratories cooperate with industries and government agencies, making significant contributions to the development of China's power engineering industry. Xi'an Jiao Tong University, located in the historic city of Xi'an, is one of the oldest (1896) and most prestigious universities in China. XJTU's research institutes and laboratories cooperate with industrial enterprises and government agencies, making significant contributions to the development and modernization of the country's power engineering industry.

In addition, 25 MPEI bachelor, master and Ph.D.-students will take part in online programs organized by BIT. They will gain valuable knowledge and experience without leaving home.

It is worth noting that last year, 11 students of MPEI were sent to study at summer schools of leading universities in China. This year this number has increased up to 80 participants! Due to the continuous strengthening of relations, Chinese universities provide MPEI students with a large number of free study places. That gives them a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a new culture, enrich their experience and gain valuable knowledge. Moreover, many students who previously had participated in the summer school got motivated to enroll in long-term studies within 1-2 semesters. Now they successfully continue their studies in joint programs between MPEI and Chinese universities.
