Delegation of Hochschule Zittau/Goerlitz University of Applied Sciences visited MPEI

On the 4th -5th of July, 2017 in frames of festive events on the occasion of the Year of Germany at MPEI a visit of delegation of Hochschule Zittau/Goerlitz University of Applied Sciences was held. The history of the University dates back to 1836, and it is importants to note that it received the status of the University of Applied Sciences in 1999. Now the training at the University takes place in 6 Departments where 117 professors train also 619 foreign students from 59 countries.

In frames of the visit Hochschule Zittau/Goerlitz University of Applied Sciences was represented by:

• Head of Department of high voltage technology, professor Stefan Kornuber
• Head of Department of nuclear power engineering, professor Wolfgang Kestner
• Professor of Department of power supply systems, professor Uwe Schmidt
• The research associate of Department of management in power engineering, professor Tino Schuette

At the beginning of the meeting the representatives of Department of International Relations held the presentation about MPEI foreign activity, colleagues from Hochschule Zittau/Goerlitz University of Applied Sciences also told about their University. During the meeting MPEI was represented by: Tulskiy V. – the acting director of Institute of Electrical Power Engineering; Serebryannikov S. - head of Dept. of Physics and Technologies of Electrical Materials and Components, Tarasov A. – head of Department of International Relations and other staff from Department of International Relations.

Then a tour around Dept. of Physics and Technologies of Electrical Materials and Components for representatives of Hochschule Zittau/Goerlitz University of Applied Sciences was arranged.

After this visit the excursion around Dept. of Power Electrical Systems for the German colleagues was arranged. There the leading engineer of Department M. Silayev told about the Department, and senior research associate R. Nasyrov has shown the operation of the exercise machine (simulator) to train the power facilities personnel on the basis of virtual reality.

Further a visit to the Dept. of Technics and High Voltage Engineering and Electrical Physics was arranged, where the department chair S. Khrenov and the associate professor of the Department A. Temnikov has shown the high-voltage hall and laboratories of the Department.

The second day of the visit of representatives of the German University started with an excursion round the Dept. of Hydro Power Engineering and Renewable Energy Sources. Here MPEI representatives told about the areas of activity of the Department and numerous prospects of development of alternative power engineering in Russia. Professor of Dept. of Hydro Power Engineering and Renewable Energy Sources Mr. Tyagunov has shown the department equipment and the main classrooms. Following the meeting results the discussion of prospects of cooperation with Hochschule Zittau/Goerlitz University of Applied Sciences in the field of Renewable Energy Sources took place.

In conclusion the representatives of the German University visited Dept. of management in power engineering and industry. Head of Dept. of management in power engineering and industry Ketoyeva N. also arranged the tour around the department. She also discussed potential exchange of experience and implementation of programs of the academic mobility with the representative of Dept. of economy of Hochschule Zittau/Goerlitz University of Applied Sciences.

Then a presentation of scientific competitions and potential financing of joint research of MPEI and Hochschule Zittau/Goerlitz University of Applied Sciences made by representatives of MPEI Department of technology transfer took place.

Closing meeting at International Administration

The closing meeting took place at International Administration office. During the meeting a large range of potential areas of cooperation in the near-term prospect was defined. Among them were:

• Application for financing of the students' academic exchanges in frames of the program Erasmus + implementation
• Search of interaction with DAAD grants (German Academic Exchange Service)
• Signing of the new contract between MPEI and Hochschule Zittau/Goerlitz University of Applied Sciences
• Joint publications
• Participation in scientific conferences in Russia and Germany
• Organization of exchange programs for professors of MPEI and Hochschule Zittau/Goerlitz University of Applied Sciences
• Joint training of Ph.D.-students
• et alias.

The meeting results allow to count on further enhancing cooperation between MPEI and German Universities.
