During the visit to Stuttgart, MPEI delegation took part in the meeting with the administration and teaching staff of the Institute of Combustion and Power Plant Technology: Uwe Schnell, Head of the Department of Modeling Technologies for Combustion of Steam Boilers, Deputy Head of the Institute, Professor Günter Baumbach, Department of Air Quality Control, Ilya Shesterikov, Researcher, Department of Combustion Systems.

During the meeting, professor Schnell was speaking about the fields of study and scientific activity of the department, peculiarities of study process organization and possible domains of cooperation. The MPEI delegation, in its turn, reported on the ITNPE and IPEEP as institutes with the closest relative scientific interests. The possibilities of carrying out mutual educational programs in a number of fields have also been discussed. The sides decided to exchange the curriculums and brief description of the educational programs for prospects of organization of Double Degree program within the considerable matching of curriculums of two Universities.

Jörg Maier, Head of Department of Firing Systems of University of Stuttgart, lead a tour at the Experimental Complex where the stands for Research in Combustion Processes and Preparation of different kinds of fuel take place. All the installations were authentic and projected by the staff of department, providing the base of education in the programs of Master and Ph.D. of the University.

Later, the delegation visited the educational TPP in Stuttgart that has been working since 1959, giving heat, power and cold both residents of local university consumers and Stuttgart citizens. The excursion was led by the TPP director. The set power capacity is 40 MW. The station realizes the traditional power-steam cycle and steam-and-gas one, with the heat accumulators. The TPP is the second highest building in Stuttgart.

The visit to the Laboratory complex of the University took place as well. This complex has been equipped on the highest contemporary level in the framework of TU9 program. The superiors of the laboratories’ also spoke about the fields of research in their departments.

The MPEI delegation visited the institute of Thermodynamics and Automated Control Systems. Professor Joachim Groß spoke about University’s research fields, particularly about the research on the study of the thermodynamic properties of working environments and the selection of the optimal environment depending on the conditions of its use.

At the University of Stuttgart the meeting of Alumni is held every year, gathering 400 graduates from different countries. Professor Valeriy Ochkov from MPEI is also a member of this Alumni Association. That gave the MPEI delegation an opportunity to visit the meeting.
