MPEI delegation visited the celebration of the Armed Forces Day of Myanmar

March 29, 2022 at the GlavUpDK cultural center at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Russia an event dedicated to the 77th anniversary celebration of the Armed Forces Day of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was held.

This event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Myanmar, headed by the current Ambassador of the Republic to the Russian Federation , His Excellency U Lwin Oo.

Students from Myanmar who are studying at higher educational institutions in Moscow, as well as representatives of consulates and embassies of partner countries were invited to share the celebration. The organizers also invited representatives from universities, noting that the training of highly qualified personnel is one of the important cooperation components between both countries.

The MPEI delegation was represented by Alexander Tarasov, Vice-Rector for International Relations, and Sultan Makoev, Coordinator for International Educational Programs. MPEI Master's students took an active part in the preparation and presentations.

The celebration began with the official part. Representatives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation delivered congratulations at the opening, wishing development and prosperity to the Republic and expressing hope for continued cooperation in the future.

In response, the Ambassador of the Republic of Myanmar, His Excellency U Lwin Oo, thanked the assembled guests and spoke about the history and significance of this holiday for the country.

The opening speech was also delivered by the Defense Attaché, Brigadier General Mr. Kyaw Moe.

March 27 is a professional holiday for members of the armed forces of Myanmar. It was formerly known as Resistance Day, as it commemorated the beginning of the Myanmar army's resistance to the Japanese occupation in 1945. The National Army of Burma (the former name of the Republic of Myanmar) in 1945 raised an uprising against the Japanese invaders.

During the informal part, Alexander Tarasov thanked the Ambassador and Attache for Military Affairs of the Republic of Myanmar for the invitation and the event organization, noting the good academic performance of students, despite the training in Russian. The parties agreed on a return visit of the embassy delegation to MPEI.
