Meeting of Myanmar alumni of Russian universities

On August 17, 2023, there was a meeting of Myanmar nationals who graduated from universities across the Russian Federation. It was dedicated to the contribution of alumni to the local development. Rosatom and RUDN University arranged the event.

The meeting gathered guests at the Information Centre of Rosatom in Yangon, some representatives from different countries connected remotely. His Excellency Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw, Union Minister for Science and Technology, Myanmar, attended the meeting, as well as other officials of the Ministry of Science and Technology, representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Myanmar, Rectors of leading Myanmar Universities and alimni of Russian Universities.

From MPEI side, the event was attended by Alexander Tarasov, MPEI Vice-Rector on International Relations, Myo Min Thant, Associate Professor of MPEI Department of Electrical Complexes of Autonomous Objects and Electrical Transport and Hlaing Min Oo, Dr.Sci., MPEI graduate, MPEI Honorary Professor (2022) and Head of the Energy Department of the DSSTRC Engineering Research Center. Alexander Tarasov spoke about the current areas of the University activities focused on the training of qualified specialists for the energy industry and related fields.

The highlight of the event were speeches of alumni who shared their experience. Hlaing Min Oo informed about the opportunities for graduates of Russian Universities in the implementation of the NPP construction project in Myanmar. Mye Min Tant shared his experience of studying in Russia and spoke about the prospects for Russian alumni.

The event was broadcast on Myanmar's main TV channels and it ended with an open discussion on education in Russia, where participants discussed the prospects for scientific and educational cooperation.
