German Maevich, 2nd year bachelor-student of IEEE,
shares his impressions about studying at Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT):
"This academic mobility program was aimed at
studying at Beijing Institute of Technology for 1 semester. In the autumn
semester of 2023/2024, 3 MPEI students from Moscow and 1 student from MPEI
Volzhsky Branch studied at BIT. We studied together with Chinese third-year
students on the English-language study program.
My studies took place in Liangxiang campus and I lived
in Zhongguancun campus which is close to the city center and we could easily
walk to the Forbidden City area.
We chose our
subjects by ourselves depending on the program of study at our home university.
However, we could also choose other subjects. For example, I studied and passed
management and the structure of algorithms.
The classes
were in lecture format with about 30 people in attendance. There were also solitary
works for 30-40 minutes. Work in the laboratory was on the student's own
initiative.
In exams we
were given one option for all with problems on the topic of the course, for
example, one paper had 4 blocks of 4 problems. The student is required to write
the solution on sheets and hand in the work without discussion to the teacher.
Basically
all instructors are very friendly, helpful. At the end or during the class you
can always ask and discuss something.
I visited 2
laboratories in China: one at Hefei University and the other at the University
of Hong Kong. Also I did some work in the physical chemistry laboratory in the BIT. I
plan to continue working remotely, creating chemical simulations and models on
a computer, or even conducting experiments in the laboratory. Now I’m making
reports and building a mathematical model for our main experiment. During the
program, I got many useful contacts for the future. I hope, that in the future
I will be able to work together with Hefei University and the University of
Hong Kong in the field of robotics and computer vision and other fields. For
example, according to local students, University of Hong Kong is strong in
medical robotics and medical engineering in general.
Beijing Institute of Technology is a truly high-class
university.
BIT was originally founded as the Academy of Natural
Sciences in 1940 in Yan'an, Shaanxi. The
Institute is a part of the Ministry of Industry and Information
Technology. The academic staff consists
of about 2 thousand people, and the number of students is more than 26
thousand. The BIT has 16 key disciplines at the national level and 25 key
disciplines at the ministerial level. BIT offers bachelor’s degrees in 60
specialties, master’s degrees in 144 specialties and doctoral degrees in 62
specialties. BIT’s research strength lies in electrical engineering,
information engineering, automation, photonics, mechanical engineering,
automotive, aerospace engineering and chemical engineering. New research fields
developed in recent years include computer science, industrial design, and
higher education research.
BIT has five key national laboratories (research
centers), six key national defense laboratories (research centers), two key
MOST laboratories (research centers) and four key Beijing municipal
laboratories (research centers). There is also a key national science park
here”.
