Since 2013, National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute" took an active part in the development of a new project within the framework of cooperation with the Republic of Armenia. The main prospect of such a cooperation is to hold the Olympiad "It’s time to study in Russia!". The cycle of Olympiad "It’s time to study in Russia!" for high school students was held under the control of Rossotrudnichestvo. MPEI became a member of the organizing committee for the preparation of the Olympiad cycle in Armenia. The winners of the Olympiad have the opportunity to get an education at a number of the Russian universities, including MPEI, on state quotas.

MPEI was one of the founders of the Association of the Universities of Russia and Armenia, established in 2015 to facilitate the formation and implementation of joint educational programs, networking and bilateral cooperation, development of academic mobility and other forms of cooperation with Armenian universities.

MPEI actively cooperates with many higher educational institutions of Armenia, including: Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University, Yerevan State University, National Polytechnic University of Armenia, National Agrarian University of Armenia, Armenian State Economic University, International Scientific and Educational Center of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia , Gyumri State Pedagogical University named after Nalbandyan ,Vanadzor State University named after O. Tumanyan, Yerevan State University of Languages and Social Science named afer V. Bryusov, Institute of Physical Research of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, Armenian University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Yerevan Research Institute of Communication Means, Armenian

State Pedagogical University, Institute of Molecular Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.

Active cooperation in frames of the organization and implementation of joint master’s educational programs with the issuance of double degrees is carried out between MPEI and Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University in the areas of "power engineering of heat technology", "optimization of the structures, parameters and modes of power supply systems and improving the efficiency of their functioning", " power plants and substations "with the support of the administration of MPEI.

Since 2015, MPEI is the CIS Basic Organization for the training, professional retraining and advanced training of personnel in the electric power industry. The relevant decision of the Council of Heads of Government of the countries members of the Commonwealth of Independent States was adopted on October 30, 2015.

Over the years of its existence, MPEI has trained more than 600 bachelors, masters and engineers for energy and industry in Armenia.

Since the 60s of the last century, the period of intensive development of the electric power industry, mechanical engineering, automation, radio electronics and telecommunications, other industries and science of Armenia began. During this period, MPEI was accepting up to 50 citizens of Armenia per year as part of targeted recruitment for training personnel for the national republics of the USSR. Graduates of MPEI actively participated in the implementation of large-scale energy projects, including: Hrazdan, Yerevan, Vanadzor TPP, Yerevan TPP, Hrazdan - 5 TPP, Armenian NPP, Argelskaya, Shambskaya, Tatevskaya, Kanaker, Hrazdan, Spandaryan, Arzna, Yerevan, Sevan hydroelectric station.

Along with the construction of power plants, the power grids were also systematically developed, and a stable power system of the republic was created, the connection between the Armenian National Power System and the power systems of neighboring countries was established.

MPEI is proud of its graduates who are making a lot of efforts to flourish the economies of Armenia and the Russian Federation, including:

· Norayr Grigoryan, Soviet geophysicist, director of VNIPI Vzryvgeofizika, chief designer of the first Soviet jet anti-tank grenade launcher;

· Heruni Paris Misakovich, Soviet scientist, radio physicist, radio technician and radio astronomer. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, doctor of technical sciences, professor, head of the antenna department of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute;

· Balasanyan Vladimir Eduardovich, General Director of the Electronic Office Systems Company, Head of the Office Systems Department of the Information Resources Administration of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation.

Armenian students and staff adequately represented and represent the Armenian people in a large multinational team of MPEI. Huge contribution to the development of theoretical electrical engineering by Demirchyan Kamo Seropovich, full member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR , which is the generally recognized head of the Russian electrical engineering school , which he created while working at MPEI, combining Moscow and Leningrad schools.

On the initiative of Dr. Theresa Margulova, Honorary Doctor of a number of foreign universities, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Russian Federation, twice holder of the Order of Lenin, twice State Prize Winner, honorary academician of the International Academy of Engineering in 1956. The first department of nuclear power plants in the world was created at MPEI, and Theresa was its head for many years.

A great contribution to the theory and practice of thermal power plants, the modes of their work is made by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of the Higher School of the Russian Federation, full member of the Engineering Academy of the Republic of Armenia, Academy of Sciences of Aviation and Aeronautics of the Russian Federation, Arakelyan Edik Koirunovich, a graduate of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, long years headed the department at Association of Russian and Armenian Universities.

The Department of Lighting Engineering at MPEI for more than 17 years was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, full member of the Academy of Electrotechnical Sciences Ataev Artem Eremovich.

Prof. Dr. Garz Z. Mirzabekyan is a major specialist in electro-cleaning of liquids and gases.

All the staff members and students of MPEI are particularly proud of the outstanding son of the Armenian people Kocharyants Samvel Grigorievich, the chief designer of the All-Union Nuclear Center - the All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics. Twice Hero of Socialist Labor, six-time holder of the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, many other orders and medals, winner of Stalinist, Leninist and state awards Kocharyants formed as a person, as a student, graduate student of MPEI. His scientific, organizational potential was formed during his work as an assistant, senior lecturer, associate professor at MPEI. The nuclear ammunition created under his leadership, and the military blocks of bombs, rockets, torpedoes, artillery shells, ensured interblock parity and preservation of peace in the 20th century.

National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute" continues to take an active part in the training of highly qualified personnel for the Armenian economy, including the state quotas of the Russian Federation for foreign citizens.

From April to May 2021 in the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Armenia (Russian House in Yerevan) and the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Bishkek meetings of the Working Groups for the selection of candidates, who submitted documents for the quota for the Bachelor's and Master's degrees, were held.

At the meetings of the Working Groups the documents establishing the selection procedure, interviews with candidates and approval of appointment of candidates to the quota were adopted. As a result of meetings the lists of candidates for budgetary education in universities of the Russian Federation, including our university, were formed.

In June 2021 there was a meeting of the Coordinating Council of the CIS Network University which was attended by representatives of national education authorities of CIS member countries and representatives of universities which are members of the CIS Network University. The Coordinating Council was established on the basis of the Interstate Agreement on the establishment and operation of the CIS Network University, signed on May 29, 2020. The CIS Network University itself was established in 2009. MPEI was accepted into the Network University Consortium in May 2017. The Consortium includes 28 leading universities from 9 CIS member states: the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and Ukraine.

At the meeting the main results and prospects for the development of the CIS Network University were summed up, the personal composition of the Coordinating Council and the rules of its work were approved. Also were adopted the criteria and conditions for the accession of educational institutions to the CIS Network University.

In September 2021 at MPEI there was a working meeting on the development of the Eurasian interstate program "Improvement of efficiency and reliability of industrial facilities and distributed energy industry in member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)".

As part of the workshop the members discussed the current state of the Interstate program preparation. The decision to develop it on the basis of the initiative proposal of MPEI was approved by the Council of the Eurasian Economic​ Commission on April 23, 2021 № 8, and our university was named responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of the Interstate program.

The participants of the meeting agreed on the next steps and key dates to finalize the development of the Intergosprogram.​
