The project concept is to
organize the education in three languages (Russian, Chinese and English)
according to MPEI educational standards with the involvement of the academic
staff of Russian and other world leading universities and research centers. The
educational activity of the Joint University will be carried out under the
guidance and supervision of the relevant state bodies. At the same time, the
University will adhere to the educational standards of the People's Republic of
China and the Russian Federation.
In June 2022, on the basis of
the Wenchang International Aerospace City on Hainan Island and Haikou urban
district, an agreement was signed on the establishment of the MPEI-Hainan Joint
University. It was planned to create two modern campuses of the future joint
university: one in the Wenchang International Aerospace City and another in
Haikou.
In February 2023, the Ministry
of Education of the People's Republic of China obtained a license for
educational activities under the project. The University's educational programs
will combine the development of international educational trends and the
development needs of China's economy and society, as well as the economic
development of Hainan Province with the global technological and economic growth.
In 2023-2024, the recruitment of
the first students for the Master degree programs 13.04.02 Electrical Power
Engineering and Electrical Engineering and 01.04.02 Applied Mathematics and
Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) has started. Education in 2023/2024
academic year is organized in the form of joint programs between MPEI and North
China Electric Power University (NCEPU), the anchor scientific and educational
MPEI partner in this project. In the future, it is planned to annually increase
the number of students and training directions.
During the construction of
campuses in Wenchang and Haikou, the main training programs take place at the
permanent campus of NCEPU in Beijing, while summer and winter internships are at
the temporary campus in Linshui (Hainan).
