The University Alliance of the Silk Road (UASR) is a
non-governmental and non-profitable organization aimed at openness and
international cooperation in higher education.
Within the strategy of the Chinese Government “One
Belt, One Road” Xi’an Jiaotong University, MPEI and the local self-government
authorities of Shaanxi Province initiated the Academic Belt of the Silk Road in
January 2015 to establish the Alliance with domestic and foreign universities
from Asia, Europe, America and Australia.
Purpose:
To create a platform for cooperation in higher
education, promote regional transparency and enhance cooperation between
universities from countries and regions located along the Silk Road.
Main objectives:
1. promote the development of exchange student programs
between universities;
2. organize cultural communication and events aimed at
strengthening friendship between the people of the countries within the
Alliance;
3. unite efforts and establish international links
between universities in the fields of science, political and economic research,
training, etc;
4. improve the quality of education in the Alliance
countries;
5. promote the economic growth of the countries of the
new Silk Road Economic Belt in the Eurasian region.
The establishment of the Alliance was announced in
21-25 May in Xi'an, China, at the Forum of Universities of the countries where
the ancient Silk Road passed through.
The event was attended by 86 universities from 26
countries and regions, including MPEI, Harbin Institute of Technology, Hong
Kong Polytechnic University, Nazarbayev University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National
University, KSU named after I. Arabayev, Kyrgyz State University of
Construction, Transport and Architecture named after N. Isanov, Central School
Paris (CentraleSupelec), Polytechnic University of Milan, University of
Liverpool, National University of Sciences & Technology (Pakistan),
National University of Singapore, Pusan National University, Chiang Mai
University (CMU), Tampere University (Finland) and others.
