XVIII Russian language Open Olympiad for foreign students at MPEI

On April 24, 2024, MPEI held the XVIII Open Russian language Olympiad for foreign students of non-philological universities of the Russian Federation.

 

The Open Russian Language Olympiad for foreign students of non-philological universities of the Russian Federation has been held at MPEI since 2001. Since then, more than 4 thousand students have taken part in it. In 2024, 78 students from 29 countries and 12 universities of the Russian Federation took part in the Olympiad. The topic of the 2024 Olympiad is “I awakened good feelings with a lyre” (Alexander Pushkin).

 

At the opening of the Olympiad, Nikolay Rogalev, MPEI Rector, delivered a welcoming speech. “Every year our university becomes a meeting place for students from different countries who want to express their love and respect for the Russian language and culture through creative performances. I wish all participants inspiration, good luck and unforgettable impressions from your participation in this landmark event!”, - Nikolay Rogalev noted.

 

Alexander Tarasov, Vice-Rector on International Relations also expressed cordial words of welcome address: “This important event unites us in a common love for the Russian language and culture, as well as in the desire for creativity and self-expression. May this Olympiad be an unforgettable experience for you and may your performances inspire others.”

 

In her welcoming speech, Olga Sergeeva, Head of the Russian Language Center, noted: “This important event reflects not only your dedication and interest in learning the Russian language, but also your desire to overcome language and cultural barriers through creativity. Songs and poems performed by you are not only a manifestation of your talent, but also a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the world of Russian culture and literature.”

 

The most active and talented students presented their performances under the topic “I awakened good feelings with a lyre” and competed for first places in three categories: Solo Song Contest, Group Song Contest, Reciters Contest.

The students' performances were evaluated by members of an expert jury consisted of teachers of Russian as a foreign language from 8 Russian universities: MPEI, MSUT “STANKIN”, RUT (MIIT), MIPT, MGSU, MTUCI, Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy, MAI.

 

At the award ceremony for the Olympiad winners, Olga Sergeeva, Head of the Russian Language Center, noted the valuable contribution of teachers of Russian as a foreign language for their support and assistance to students in preparation for the performance.

 

As a result of voting by the expert jury, places in the Olympiad finals were distributed as follows:
