The cooperation of National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute" with universities and organizations of Angola began in 1970, when the first students were accepted for training. MPEI has trained a large number of highly qualified personnel for a number of countries around the world, including 10 graduates from Angola.
Every year National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute" takes part in the Olympiad "It’s time to study in Russia!" in the Republic of Angola. This Olympiad allows to select the best ones among applicants who wish to study at the Russian universities and, in particular, at MPEI, by means of quotas of the Government of the Russian Federation. According to the results of the events of the Olympiad, we can state the following points:
- the high growth of interest of the Angolan youth in obtaining higher technical education in Russia, both on scholarship and on a contract basis;
- high marks from representatives of the Angolan government authorities of the participation of the Russian Federation in the development of bilateral cooperation in the educational sphere;
- high interest in learning Russian;
- favorable attitude of the representatives of the education authorities of Angola to the Olympiad and their readiness for systemic cooperation in conducting events of the Olympiad "It’s time to study in Russia!".
The question is being considered of the possibility of creating a regional educational cluster in the form of a consortium of the Russian and Angolan universities, which will ensure the employment of Angolan graduates of the Russian universities after their return to Angola.
Traditionally, representatives of Angola participate in the Russian language Olympiad for foreign students, which has been held at National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute" since 2005. Students and PhD students compete in three categories: poetry reading and singing songs (solo and in a group) in Russian.
Students from Angola annually participate in the MPEI Interfestival, which includes competitions, the exhibition "Culture of my country", a culinary competition, a talent contest, a gala concert, competitions in various sports.
National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute" cooperates with universities and organizations of Angola for decades. It is planned to continue and expand cooperation on exchange programs in the field of research activities.
