MPEI strengthens cooperation with Uzbekistan and expands its branch campus29.04.2026From April 26 to 29, 2026, Alexander Tarasov, Vice-Rector on International Relations at MPEI, paid a working visit to Uzbekistan as part of a delegation from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. The primary goals of the visit were to monitor and coordinate the activities of Russian university branch campuses, advance educational cooperation, and discuss digital services for international applicants. As part of the visit program, the delegation visited the MPEI branch in Tashkent, where they met with personnel and students. Discussions focused on developing the branch’s infrastructure, equipping the educational process with necessary resources, and updating teaching and learning materials, including for the Physics course. On April 28, MPEI representatives visited the Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov. During a meeting with the university’s Rector, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sadritdin Turabdjanov, the parties reviewed the branch’s future development, the specifics of the 2026 admissions campaign, and the possibility of launching a new joint degree program in Fundamental Computer Science and Information Technology with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence. That same day, a meeting was held with Uzokboy Begimkulov, Director of the Institute for Retraining and Advanced Training of Higher Education Personnel of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The discussions focused on the prospects for launching joint professional development programs. Additionally, a meeting of heads of Russian university branch campuses took place at the Tashkent branch of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. The key topics were the development of the branch network and changes to the 2026 admissions campaign. Representatives of the Russian Embassy and relevant agencies of the Republic of Uzbekistan attended the discussion. A particular focus of the visit was on the digitalization of education. Negotiations were held with representatives of research organizations in the Republic of Uzbekistan to discuss the prospects of establishing a Center for Digital Transformation in Education and Energy at the MPEI branch inTashkent. Furthermore, a meeting took place at the Trade Representation of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Uzbekistan, where opportunities were explored to expand collaboration with Russian companies and raise awareness of the activities of Russian university branch campuses abroad. Following the visit, proposals were drafted for the further development of educational and scientific cooperation, to be submitted at the level of the relevant organizations.
