MPEI awarded the title “MPEI Honorary Professor” to the President of VUSTA

On April 30, 2026, MPEI hosted an official ceremony to award the title of Honorary Professor of MPEI on Phan Xuân Dũng, Doctor of Sciences and President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA).

The event was attended by an official VUSTA delegation, representatives of the Embassy of Vietnam in Russia, the Russian House for International Scientific and Technical Cooperation, and the university’s leadership. Dmitry Protasovsky, Director General of the Russian House for International Scientific and Technical Cooperation, opened the ceremony. He highlighted the significant contribution of Dr. Phan Xuân Dũng to the development of bilateral scientific and technological cooperation.

The title “MPEI Honorary Professor” was awarded to Phan Xuân Dũng, an outstanding Vietnamese scientist and public figure, in recognition of his long-standing work in science and technology, his personal contribution to the implementation of major strategic projects (including the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant), as well as his active role in strengthening partnerships between scientific and educational institutions in Vietnam and Russia.

The nomination was presented by Marina Khvostova, Head of the Department of Nuclear Power Plants at MPEI. She highlighted Phan Xuân Dũng’s important role in advancing energy education and fostering cooperation between the two countries.

The Honorary Professor diploma was presented by MPEI Rector Nikolay Rogalev. In his address, he noted that the conferral of this title reflects the deep respect of the Russian academic community for a colleague who has, for decades, served as a bridge of friendship between the scientific communities of Vietnam and Russia.

In his response, Dr. Phan Xuân Dũng expressed his gratitude to the MPEI community for the high honor and reaffirmed his commitment to further promoting academic exchanges, joint research and the training of specialists for the energy sectors of both countries.

An important milestone of the ceremony was the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Russian House for International Scientific and Technical Cooperation and MPEI. The document was signed by Dmitry Protasovsky, Director General of the organization, and Nikolay Rogalev, MPEI Rector.

Following the ceremony, the guests visited the GOELRO Museum, the Grand Assembly Hall, the Institute of Hydropower and Renewable Energy, the Department of Nuclear Power Plants, as well as the Military Training Center of MPEI.
