MPEI students participated in the “Green Energy” Summer school at East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai

12-30, 2026, MPEI students took part in the international “Green Energy” Summer School hosted by the East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) in Shanghai.

The summer school’s program focused on green energy. Students attended a series of lectures and interactive sessions led by professors and industry experts. Topics included hydrogen generation and storage, China’s “dual carbon” strategy (the country’s roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality), as well as sustainable development concepts aligned with the UN agenda.

Learning went beyond the campus. As part of field workshops, the students visited operating industrial facilities and environmental infrastructure projects in Shanghai and the Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, gaining firsthand insight into real‑world implementations of green solutions. In-group work, participants tackled several project assignments based on actual sustainable development scenarios. Students received official ECUST certificates of attendance upon completion of the course.

A cultural component of the program aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of Chinese traditions and improve their technical Chinese language skills. The students joined a variety of workshops from baking cakes to contributing to a humorous newspaper.

In their free time, the group explored Shanghai. They strolled along Nanjing Pedestrian Street and visited the popular Fumin Shopping Center, took a ferry ride, explored the 12‑story ART Museum, and went up to an observation deck to enjoy the evening view of the city.

Trips like these offer more than information from online sources: they provide immersive exposure to the country’s culture, traditions, and history.
