Visit of Damascus University delegation
On the 11th of December, 2019, MPEI hosted the visit of Damascus University delegation from the Arab Republic of Syria headed by President of the University Maher Mhd. Kabakibi. Among the honored guests there was an MPEI Alumnus, Omar Wared, professor of the Damascus university.
Alexander Tarasov, MPEI Vice-Rector on International Relations, welcomed the delegation.
From the part of MPEI the delegation was also received by Head of international Administration Sergey Shirinskii and Head of the Department of International Relations Elena Gulicheva. During the meeting the sides discussed the issues of collaboration, and Mohamed Maher Kabakibi reported on the University’s activity in education and science research.
Representatives of Damascus University visited the Institutes of Electric Power Engineering and Hydropower and Renewable Energy Sources of MPEI.
Damascus University is the largest and eldest university in Syria and has campuses in various Syrian cities. It is also the best educational institution in the Arab region according to international ratings (QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education).
The university was founded in 1923 by merging the pre-existing School of Medicine (created in 1903) and the Law Institute (founded in 1913), which makes it the first general educational institution in modern Syria in terms of its chronology. In total, more than 200,000 students study within the walls of all its branches.
From the 30th of September until the 6th of October 2019 MPEI took part in the expositional events in the framework of the program "Russia – new possibilities for higher education". The opening of the exhibition in Syria took place at Damascus University.
