XIX Open Russian Language Olympiad at MPEI29.04.2025XIX Open Russian Language Olympiad at MPEI On April 24, 2025, MPEI held the XIX Open Russian Language Olympiad for international students of non-philological universities in the Russian Federation. Since 2001, MPEI has been hosting the Open Russian Language Olympiad for international students of non-philological universities in the Russian Federation. Over the years, more than 4,000 students have taken part in the event. Last year, 76 students participated, while this year the number nearly doubled – 125 students from 13 Russian universities competed. The 2025 Olympiad was held under the theme “Your Victory in Our Hearts”, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. “The Olympiad is not just a competition. It is a unique opportunity for our international students to present their skills, achievements, and genuine passion for Russian culture. Through poetry, song, dance, and other creative performances, they demonstrate not only their talent but also deep respect for the culture of the country in which they study. I am confident that the warm memories they take with them from Russia and from our university will stay with them for a long time, strengthening friendships and sustaining their interest in the Russian language and culture,” Nikolay Rogalev, MPEI Rector, said in his welcome address. In her welcoming speech, Olga Sergeeva, Acting Head of the Department of Russian Language at MPEI, remarked: “The Olympiad is not only a contest of knowledge, but also a true celebration of the Russian language – a language that brings together people from different countries, cultures, and traditions. It is a great honor for us to welcome such talented and genuinely motivated students who are passionate about Russian and eager to gain a deeper understanding of our country’s culture and mindset.” The most active and talented students presented their performances under the theme “Your Victory in Our Hearts” and competed for the top spots in three categories: solo singing, group singing, and recitation. The students’ performances were judged by an expert panel, which included Russian language instructors from nine Russian universities: MPEI, Stankin University, Russian University of Transport (MIIT), MIPT, MGSU, MTUCI, RSAU-MTAA, MAI, and Gubkin University of Oil and Gas.
