Round table: power engineering development and social innovations

On April 21, 2025, MPEI hosted a round table discussion on “Energy Development and Social Innovations” topic, organized by the Department of Management in Energy and Industry at the initiative of the Directorate on Integration Policy Development. The event was held with the participation of representatives from Union Electrica (UNE), MPEI’s key partner in Cuba.

The meeting took the form of a scientific seminar held in a hybrid format. The speakers were academic members from the department: Marina Myznikova, Olga Kolesnikova, and Vladimir Kolesnik. Assoc. Prof. Marina Myznikova opened the session with a report on the social role of power engineering in the modern world, co-authored with researchers Veniamin Livshits and Elena Orlova. The presentation session also featured a report on the fundamentals of business processes by Vladimir Kolesnik, Senior Lecturer, and an overview of motivational models in personnel management delivered by Assoc. Prof. Olga Kolesnikova.

The invited guest speaker was Assoc. Prof. Rustem Gazizullin from Kazan Innovative University named after V.G.Timiryasov, who delivered a detailed analysis of cybersecurity in digital substations.

The audience included UNE executives, Cuban students and MPEI PhD.-students, as well as Cuban interns from the Department of Management in Energy and Industry. Many of them are heads of enterprises and divisions within Cuba’s Electric Power Union.

The scientific presentations sparked positive feedback and a number of questions from UNE representatives and other participants. An interactive discussion followed, with attendees frequently returning to the key issues raised by the speakers.
The event contributed to the development of MPEI’s Center for Targeted Training in the Republic of Cuba. The Center was established in Havana in November 2024 with the support of the Cuban government.
