MPEI students took part in Harbin Institute of Technology summer schools

01.08.2025

In July 2025, 13 students from seven MPEI institutes (IREE, EEI, ITNPE, IPMM, IITCS, IEEHT, and IHAS) attended the Global Summer School HITGSS 2025 at the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), one of China’s leading technical universities.

The summer school brought together more than 1000 participants from around the world and offered 18 cutting-edge study tracks. MPEI students showed the greatest interest in topics related to artificial intelligence, physics, intelligent robotic systems, economics, optoelectronics, sustainable energy, aerospace technologies, precision measurements, modern approaches to management, and future-oriented technologies.

HIT professors with extensive international academic experience taught in English. Participants explored the latest engineering solutions, discussed current challenges in high-tech industries, visited university laboratories, and worked in teams on project assignments.

“It is an incredibly energetic, exciting, and inspiring place where you can meet many interesting people, learn something new, and, of course, practice your English. Many of the HIT professors will definitely be remembered for a long time.”, – Pavel Istomin, ITNPE, said.

In addition to the academic component, the program offered a rich cultural program that gave participants an opportunity to experience Chinese traditions, cuisine, and daily life more closely.

Students visited Harbin’s main attractions, including the famous Saint Sophia Cathedral, Zhongyang Pedestrian Street, the bridge over the Songhua River, and Sun Island Park. The city made a lasting impression with its blend of European architecture and Eastern charm. Participants especially noted Harbin’s strong Russian cultural heritage. Many signs are written in both Chinese and Russian, and locals often speak Russian, underscoring the historical ties between the two countries.

“Traveling to China is easier than it seems. When you come to study, you inevitably make new friends from all over the world. The friendly locals are always ready to help, and even the language barrier is no obstacle. Moreover, there are green trees everywhere, delicious food, and colorful signs just like in the pictures”, – Olga Lushchikova, IHAS, said.

MPEI students also received special recognition. Olga Morozova (IITCS) was elected student representative and delivered a speech on behalf of all participants at the Summer School closing ceremony. In addition, Olga Lushchikova (IHAS) and Marina Mozhaeva (IREE) were named among the top participants of the program.

Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) was founded in 1920 as the Sino-Russian School for training specialists in railway transportation. At the time, engineers were trained in two main fields: Railway Construction and Electrical Machinery and Mechanical Engineering. Today, HIT is one of China’s leading national universities, offering a wide range of programs in engineering, technology, materials science, information technology, and other related fields.

HIT has been a long-standing partner of MPEI. The universities share many years of cooperation in academic exchange and joint research projects.
