First President of Mongolia was awarded the title of “Honorary Doctor of MPEI”16.12.2025On December 16, 2025, MPEI awarded the title of “Honorary Doctor of MPEI” to Punsalmaagiin Ochirbat, first President of Mongolia, academician and professor, in recognition of his significant contributions to the cooperation development between the university and Mongolian research organizations. The diploma was received by his daughter, Ochirmaa Ochirbat, an MPEI graduate and daughter of the distinguished statesman. The awarding of the title “Honorary Doctor of MPEI” to Punsalmaagiin Ochirbat recognized his many years of fruitful work, aimed at strengthening friendship between nations, training highly qualified specialists and advancing power engineering science. His achievements and character embody the high standards and spirit of the university. Representatives of the Embassy of Mongolia in the Russian Federation also attended the ceremony. Yanjmaa Ochirbat, First Secretary of the Embassy, delivered a heartfelt speech about the distinguished scholar and statesman Punsalmaagiin Ochirbat. “The awarding of the title ‘Honorary Doctor of MPEI’ to Punsalmaagiin Ochirbat is our way of preserving the memory of this outstanding statesman and scholar. His contributions to the development of science, education and international cooperation are immeasurable. Even after his passing, his ideas and work continue to inspire a new generation of researchers”, - Nikolay Rogalev, MPEI Rector, said. The personal support of Punsalmaagiin Ochirbat was a key factor in fostering the partnership between MPEI and the Mongolian University of Science and Technology. His contributions to the development of Mongolia’s energy sector and the training of a new generation of specialists have been highly valued by the scientific community and by MPEI students who study his works, including his book “Strategy for the Development of Mongolia’s Mineral Resource Sector”. Punsalmaagiin Ochirbat’s awards include the Order of Chinggis Khaan (2005), honorary doctorates from leading universities worldwide, and the State Prize of Mongolia (2022). MPEI honors Professor Ochirbat’s memory and his contributions to science and education remain an important legacy for future generations of students and researchers. During the ceremony, the MPEI Gold Medal was also awarded to Shagdar Batjargal, CEO of Munkh Taij Delger, for strengthening cooperation between Mongolia’s relevant agencies and Russian experts in energy security, and for his active participation in joint projects with MPEI aimed at workforce development and enhancing the protection of Mongolia’s critical power engineering infrastructure.
