​MPEI International Division informs that from June 19 to June 22, 2013 the representative of MPEI Department of International Relations Elena Gulicheva visited Ethiopia, Addis Abeba, for the purpose of carrying out the events concerning foreign students recruiting to train in MPEI on a contract basis and to assist the organization of the Academic Competition on Math for Ethiopian school-students.

On June 21, 2013 Eastern European University Association, MPEI partner, organized the Academic Competition on Math for Ethiopian school-students with the assistance of Russian Center of Science and Culture (RCSC) in​ Addis Ababa, private school Falcon Academy and the DAFTA academic mobility agency.

During the visit a meeting with the RCSC Director Vyacheslav A. Konnik took place. The possibility of carrying out the Academic Competition on Math on the basis of RCSC within the project “It's time to study in Russia!” was discussed. The project was successfully realized in spring, 2013 in Kazakhstan, Armenia, Mongolia, Vietnam, China and Moldova. The terms of publishing in Ethiopia a number of reference books informing of the Russian education, Russian universities (MPEI among them), RCSC and Rossotrudnichestvo were also discussed. V. Konnik proposed the new way to organize MPEI programs promotion. A part of the offered program is presentation of MPEI educational opportunities for Ethiopian citizens concerning the specialties in the field of power engineering. This would be a specific program with a purpose of achieving result, instead of a former recruiting program, that had been used on June 21, 2013 for carrying out the recruiting events.

The information partner of the Academic Competition was the director of the private school Falcon Academy, who had put an announcement in the Fortuna newspaper before the Competition, spread leaflets and notified school-students about the project.

More than 150 Ethiopian school-students took part in the Academic Competition. The Competition was held in the class-rooms of the RCSC in Addis-Ababa. The winners were selected to continue the education in Russian Universities with scholarship.

After the end of the Academic Competition in the assembly hall of RCSC the seminar “Study in Russia” was organized. Films about Russia were shown to Ethiopian school-students, as well as a presentation with basic information about Russian Educational System and a short MPEI presentation.
