MPEI continues to expand cooperation with Egypt05.03.2025On March 5, 2025, Mr. Sherif Hassan Ged, Secretary General of the Egyptian-Russian Friendship Society, Ambassador of Russian Education and Science, visited MPEI.Mr. Sherif Hassan Ged was accompanied by Alexey Matveev, a MPEI graduate and an expert in the field of business intercultural communications. On MPEI side, Elena Gulicheva, Director of the International Relations Department and staff members of the International Relations Directorate joined the meeting. The guests were given an excursion to the Russian Language Department (RLD), the Theoretical Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering Department (TFEED), as well as to the scientific and technical library of MPEI. In addition, a meeting was held with members of the University Veterans Council. The parties discussed the prospects of educational and scientific interaction, including opportunities for teaching Russian to Egyptian students, professional development of teachers and cooperation with Egyptian universities. Mr. Sherif Hassan Ged noted that the cooperation he proposed encompasses 11 departments from various Egyptian universities across different cities, with MPEI standing out for its distinguished scientific and educational legacy, well-established engineering school, and extensive experience in international collaboration. In turn, Olga Sergeeva, Acting Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language, emphasized that this year marks the department’s 70th anniversary. She highlighted that the department, which employs professors with extensive experience in teaching Russian as a foreign language, is fully prepared for cooperation.In the Scientific and Technical Library, the delegation was warmly welcomed by members of the Veterans' Council of MPEI, Tatiana Novikova and Valery Marchenko. Notably, Valery Marchenko, a former student of the Department of Thermal Power Plants (TPP), was sent to Egypt in 1964 and spent three years contributing to the construction of the Aswan Dam, one of the most monumental engineering projects of the 20th century. This remarkable example of international cooperation became a symbol of friendship between the Soviet Union and Egypt. Mr. Sherif Hassan Ged expressed his deep admiration for this historical achievement, emphasizing that such examples of successful collaboration in science and technology provide a strong foundation for the further development of bilateral relations. At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in strengthening the partnership between MPEI and Egyptian universities, agreeing to define the first steps of cooperation and scheduling the next meeting in April.
