MPEI branch in Tashkent hosts discussion on engineering training for Uzbekistan’s power engineering field

On May 20, 2025, the MPEI branch in Tashkent hosted a conference on “Training highly qualified specialists in the power engineering field for the Republic of Uzbekistan.” The event brought together representatives of relevant ministries of Uzbekistan, industry enterprises, MPEI, the Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov (TSTU), and other organizations.

First Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shokhrukh Daliev, emphasized that the development of the country’s engineering and industrial sectors should be based on a strong link between education, science, production, and industry. He stressed the significance of a practice-oriented approach and the need to train specialists capable of implementing Uzbekistan’s Fuel and Energy Strategy for 2020–2030.

In his speech, Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Umid Madaminov, emphasized that the MPEI branch in Tashkent has become a key element in building the country's human resource potential. He stressed the need to train a new generation of specialists – leaders capable of generating ideas, managing projects, and driving technological change. He placed special emphasis on the development of dual education, academic mobility, joint laboratories, and applied research.

MPEI Vice-Rector on International Relations, Alexander Tarasov, presented the university’s educational initiatives planned for implementation in Tashkent. These include the “Young power engineer” program for school students, outreach schools, academic competitions, energy clubs, and other activities aimed at building an early career guidance and talent development system. He also emphasized the importance of close cooperation with industry-specific enterprises in organizing the educational process.

Representatives of leading energy companies in Uzbekistan, such as Uzbekhydroenergo JSC, National Power Electric Grid of Uzbekistan JSC, Regional Electric Networks, and Thermal Power Plants, shared their proposals for developing career guidance, student internships, and employment. TSTU Rector Sadritdin Turabdzhanov, also addressed the participants.

During the conference, students had the opportunity to interact with industry representatives, ask questions to potential employers, and showcase their projects at a small exhibition.
The event marked an important step in strengthening cooperation between educational institutions and the power engineering field of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
