MPEI International Division informs that on July 9, 2014 the honorary title "The Honorable Doctor of TU Ilmenau" was conferred to D.Sc.(tech.), Head of Department of Information-Measurement Technique Professor Igor Zhelbakov. National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute" has been working successfully together with Ilmenau University of Technology (Germany) for more than 45 years. Since 1998 our Universities have been in active cooperation within research projects and the academic exchanges that in 2007 were transformed into "MPEI – TU Ilmenau German Engineering Faculty". For all the time of realization of this program over 500 MPEI students took part in it, 72 MPEI alumni fulfilled the whole Program, wrote and defended degree thesis in German, underwent 5-month work training and received diplomas of TU Ilmenau. Such training is not just a way to increase language and professional skills of MPEI students and to organize exchange of experience, but it is effective form of training for specialists of new formation of the international level.

The main role in revival of partnership between MPEI and TU Ilmenau and strategic cooperation development for our Universities at the new level since 90th years of the last century justly belongs to Professor I. Zhelbakov who has been the permanent head of MPEI and TU Ilmenau joint projects for many years. This project is deservedly recognized as one of the most successful Russian-German projects on realization of "two diplomas" (or double degree) programs between technical universities.

On July 9, 2014 there took place a ceremony concerning awarding of honorary title "The Honorable Doctor of TU Ilmenau" (German "Ehren halber") to D.Sc.(tech.), Head of Department of Information-Measurement Technique Professor Igor Zhelbakov. The ceremony took place at TU Ilmenau in warm friendly atmosphere in the presence of numerous foreign guests.
